Road Length in Great Britain 2012

Valuable baseline data such as road length should be easier to access and understand, so that local highways authorities, Councillors, private sector service providers and the public can use it to drive greater collaboration and value for money in local government highways services.

This is the first in a series of articles exploring the national statistics dataset for Road Length in Great Britain for 2012.

I thought we’d start with a very simple introduction, comparing the road length in England, Scotland and Wales.  In subsequent posts, we’ll break down the data in more detail to understand who is responsible for maintaining different types of roads, Then we’ll start linking it with other data, such as cost and road condition, to provide some valuable insights and benchmarks for the sector.
